I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Harry Potter because it reminds me of it a lot, or anyone who likes things involving ghosts, zombies and other fantasy characters.

I think that’s quite unusual for a fantasy book.Īnother thing I liked is the fact that a lot of old story characters are in this including Sherlock Holmes and Van Helsing!Īlthough there aren’t many pictures in this book there’s a little illustration at the start of each chapter, but the design of the book is really cool because it has glittery silver page edges and the cover is designed to look like the night sky, which is really effective. My favourite character is Mr Ware who works in the bureau of supernatural affairs because he always wears an orange jacket covered in feathers which made me laugh and he is really funny. But when she gets invited to a strange summer camp and discovers that she is a magician she has to endure even more bullying than she used to. She is very poor and lives in a small flat with her mum. The main character is a girl called Amari. I like this book because it has a black main character and most books don’t have black heroes. But if she doesn’t pass the three tryouts, she may never find out what happened to Quinton …Īmari and The Night Brothers is emotional, funny and scary all at the same time. With an evil magician threatening the whole supernatural world, and her own classmates thinking she is the enemy, Amari has never felt more alone. But first she has to get her head around the new world of the Bureau, where mermaids, aliens and magicians are real, and her roommate is a weredragon.Īmari must compete against kids who’ve known about the supernatural world their whole lives, and when each trainee is awarded a special supernatural talent, Amari is given an illegal talent – one that the Bureau views as dangerous.
